Perry openly discussed his battle with addiction in his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, which was published last year. In addition, he shared some revealing truths about his co-star Jennifer Aniston.

Over the weekend, Perry was discovered unconscious in the hot tub at his residence in Los Angeles. The cause of his passing has not been determined and is currently under investigation.

He also starred in other television series such as Growing Pains, Sydney alongside Valerie Bertinelli, and Beverly Hills, 90210.

Perry’s rise to stardom came with his role in the widely acclaimed TV series, Friends. However, alongside his newfound fame, he also began to struggle with alcohol abuse.

Perry admitted that he was able to manage the situation to some extent. However, as he reached the age of 34, he found himself deeply involved in various difficulties. Despite this, there were certain years during that period when he managed to stay sober. Surprisingly, it was during Season 9 that he remained completely sober, and coincidentally, it was also the season in which he received a nomination for the best actor award. This realization made him think, “This must mean something.”

In 2018, he experienced a serious health issue when he had to be admitted to the hospital due to a gastrointestinal perforation. He was in a coma for two weeks and had to stay in the hospital for five months.

Perry revealed to People that the medical professionals informed his family about his slim survival odds of just two percent. He was placed on an ECMO machine, a device that takes over the function of both the heart and lungs. This desperate measure is often referred to as a Hail Mary, as very few people manage to survive it.

Perry admitted multiple times that his addiction was known by the other members of the Friends cast, and they supported him because they were not only close while filming but also in real life.

They displayed great empathy and were extremely tolerant. Perry compared their support to the behavior of penguins in the wild. When a penguin falls ill or sustains a severe injury, the rest of the group gathers around it, providing assistance and encouragement. Similarly, the cast members rallied around Perry, offering their unwavering support until he was able to stand on his own again.

Despite the challenges, Jennifer Aniston remained a steadfast support for him. She maintained a strong connection with him throughout his highs and lows.
